Preserved moss and live plants form a hybrid wall, a defining feature that blends biophilia with low-maintenance flexibility.

Design Intent

At 405 Colorado, developed by Brandywine Realty Trust, the design team set out to introduce a biophilic feature that would visually separate arrival and dining areas while adding natural texture to the space. The original concept of a full living wall was refined into a hybrid system of preserved moss and live plants, delivering the presence of greenery while reducing long-term maintenance requirements.

Implementation

In collaboration with STG Design, Green Oasis engineered a hybrid wall system that integrates approximately 60% Preserved Moss with live plantings. The preserved moss provides consistent color and coverage without ongoing care, while the live species are supported by interconnected POD Living Wall modules. Irrigation and drainage are concealed behind the moss surface, maintaining a clean finish. This approach reduced maintenance demands by nearly half while preserving the dynamic qualities of a living wall.
